[NCOG] Grafting workshop Feb 24th 2018

Date: Saturday February 24th. Time: 11:00 - 16:00. Location: Newton Rigg College, near Penrith, CA11 0AH

Our annual grafting workshop will be held at Newton Rigg College (in the "potting shed" to the left of the main car park - hopefully we will have put up signs). There will a demonstration of the techniques involved in grafting scion wood onto rootstocks at 1:30pm. Participants who already know how to graft can turn up from 11:00 am.

If you wish to take part in the workshop please book at https://webcollect.org.uk/ncog/event/gr ... y-24th-018

Please bring a suitable knife (Stanley knife or equivalent with a new sharp blade) and gloves. Please do not bring a long-bladed knife. Some chopping boards should be available, but if you have a small board please bring it (or a wad of newspaper can be used). There will be a wide variety of scion wood available on the day. If you want to graft a specific tree variety please let us know by email as soon as possible so that we can try and make the appropriate scion wood available. Each rootstock you use will cost £2.50 (for NCOG members) or £5 (for non-members). Non-members may join on the day. There will be no other charge for NCOG members. You will need to pot up your completed grafts when you get home after the workshop.

Bring a carrier bag or suitable non-plastic wrapping to keep the roots moist.

The vast majority of rootstock that we have is MM106. If you require a different rootstock, please contact us in advance.

For those staying over lunchtime:- PLEASE NOTE that the cafe will not be open, so you will need to bring sandwiches etc. (tea and coffee making facilities will be available for a small donation).
