Walking holidays at Bawd Hall

Bawd Hall is the ideal base for a walking holiday. There is no need even to drive to your starting point (and find car parking) as there are so many walks to be had starting at the house:

  • great walks straight from the door, from a gentle stroll by the beck to an all-day hike around the "Newlands Round" ;
  • four bathrooms, all with a choice of bath or shower, to clean up and refresh afterwards;
  • plenty of space for boots and coats
  • large lounge and garden room to gather in and share the experience;
  • utility room equipped with washing machine, plus a large drying room with a tumble dryer;
  • central heating throughout (and an open fire if you want it);
  • maps, books and internet access to plan your activities.

For more information, see the walking section of “Your Stay”.

Our guests say...

  • "What a fabulous cottage – walks galore from the door." - J, N.Yorkshire
  • "The house is amazing. We love the views and we enjoyed walking all the fells that we could see.." - B&S, Devon
  • "Blessed with good weather we enjoyed walks from Buttermere to Red Pike… before being drawn to our best walk from the house up Robinson and down via Hindscarth." - MS, Sussex
  • "We love Bawd Hall, it lived up to every expectation. Great to be able to walk from the door every day and not to have to drive." - JH

The Lake District offers the finest walking in England, from lakeside strolls to mountain marathons. Some of our favourite local walks are:

  • Causey Pike and the ridge to Crag Hill;
  • extend this to do the "Coledale Round" over Hopegill Head and Grisedale Pike (or do those from Whinlatter);
  • stroll along the side of Derwent Water and take the boat around the lake or into Keswick;
  • Maiden Moor, Hindscarth and Robinson – super ridge walking (you can see this from the house);
  • Aikin Knott, Ard Crags and Knott Rigg (another fine ridge just out of the door);
  • add the last two together for a super but very full round walk from the house;
  • walk around Buttermere – tranquil and with excellent pubs;
  • not forgetting Catbells with its lovely views of Derwent Water.

Sit in the garden and plan your walk by eye. Or you can drive a short distance to climb Skiddaw, Blencathra, Great Gable or Scafell Pike among many others.
